Keeper of the Photons

from $275.00

An image made from happenstance. I have a friend upstairs. His name is Larry. And I talk to him most days I go to shoot. I ask him for the good stuff and he always delivers. This day was no different.

I hesitated going out at first, and almost made the call not to go but there was this “itch ” that told me to go. My friend upstairs letting me know to get my ass out there.

I’m glad I listened.

I spent my drive in watching the sun poke out from the clouds so when I got there, it was going back behind the dark fluff…DAMN IT!

Got set up anyway and as I’m doing it, the wind is starting to whip up, sending waves up over the boat launch. As I’m getting sprayed with water while looking through my viewfinder, it dawns on me. I’m in the wrong spot. The light isn’t hitting the lighthouse how I want, so I pack back up very quickly, and shoot across the parking lot to the other side.

Man oh man, what a terrible, amazing choice. Immediately after I got my gear set back up, I’m back to getting wet. The problem this time is that the waves are kicking up over my Jeep. There were several images where I shot and you couldn’t even see the horizon from the heavy spray.

The clouds thankfully started to split though (Thanks Larry,) and let some of the golden light creep in on the churning waves.

Had I not gone out, I would have spent the evening in dry boots and pants without almost ruining my camera/lenses.

Thank Larry I listened.
